Have you ever thought about how you could highlight those hidden gems in your local history journals? Maybe you want to provide added value to an earlier publication that you plan to update and reprint. The Ulster Local History Trust is encouraging individuals and groups to apply for a grant to index their publications.  Start now and you might be ready to apply before the closing date for the current round of grants on 31 August 2024.  Apply here

The most recent grants paid out went to groups and individuals in Counties Tyrone, Monaghan and Londonderry.  Details of these publications are available on our Grants Awarded page.

The Trust is delighted  to announce that it is now inviting grant  applications for local history projects in the nine counties of Ulster.  The closing date for the next  round of applications is 28th February 2025.

It may take up to four months from the closing date for a decision on your application, though we do try to process them as quickly as possible.

The Trust held a very interesting and successful one day history conference: “Reformation Then and Now: Perspectives and Change 1517-2017”  which took place in the  Cardinal Tomás Ó Fiaich Memorial Library & Archive, Armagh on 4th November 2107.  The event was  organised to mark the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, with the main focus being on the experience in Ireland.   [Read more…]

The Trust is keen to hear from organisations, businesses and individuals who are willing to contribute to the Trust Fund in order to help it further support the activities of those interested in local history.

 

For the first time in recent years the Trust returned to County Donegal for their meeting in  April  2016 at the invitation of Donegal County Museum in Letterkenny.          [Read more…]

Mr Jack Johnston represented the Trust at the recent launch of a new book on the history of Corglass Presbyterian Church (First Bailieborough) written by Leslie McKeague. The book was launched by Presbyterian historian, the Rev David Nesbitt, while the current minister of the congregation, the Rev Sam Anketell also spoke. At the event a number of old school roll books restored and rebound through the generosity of Mr Peter Johnston of Hollywood were handed over to Mr Tom Sullivan representing Cavan County Library.
